Ivan Perisic to Tottenham and why it is a very good deal for Contes Tottenham.

Ivan Perisic recently joined Tottenham Hotspur on a free signing a two-year contract with the London club after his contract ran out with Inter Milan

Ivan Perisic has been one of the best wingbacks in the recent years winning many major trophies. He brings class and composure despite the Croatian being thirty-three years old. This signing is a very ‘un-Tottenham like’ as it goes against the signing young players idea at Tottenham showing the change Conte has bought to the club as the Italian is trying to bring long lost trophies to Spurs.

During the 2020/21 Serie A campaign which Conte’s Inter Milan won, Perisic was a pivotal player for the Italian supplying nine goals/assists. Even though that sounds a small number, Perisic provides you with pace, energy, the ability to help the team out at the back and forming strong connections on the left as he did with Bastoni at Inter. It is still unclear who will be Tottenham’s left-centre-back next season but the Croatian will certainly be on the left with the formidable Heung-Min Son.

Perisic brings years of experience after playing in many cup finals including World Cup Final, Champions League Final and The Coppa Italia which he scored two goals in added time to win the cup for Inter Milan last season. This experience will help this Tottenham squad who so desperately want to win trophies which they so deserve after coming close on numerous occasions during the past years. Perisic also played a huge role in Croatia’s amazing 2018 World Cup run which saw them lose at the final hurdle to France. The Croatian scored vital goals including a goal in the final despite losing. He punched a sucker blow to England as he scored in extra-time to take Croatia to the final breaking England fans hearts, but all this experience will be extremely helpful not just for Tottenham but potentially other players at Tottenham.

Ryan Sessegnon the young English wing-back he provided many superb performances since Conte’s arrival after being put in the cold and hardly kicking a football under Nuno. Due to Ivan Perisic’s arrival Sessegnon will most likely be the Croatians understudy but that may not be a bad thing. As Sessegnon is a young aspiring wing-back and he can learn from one of the very best in Ivan Perisic, a man who has everything in a wing-back; back post headers, crossing abilities, good footwork, explosiveness, and the list goes on. Despite Perisic only signing for two years this could have a big affect on the future full backs at the club (even Djed Spence that could become one of Tottenham’s many signings this summer) as these young full backs have a perfect prime example to look up at which will help them to blossom over the many years they spend at the club.

The signing of Perisic is a statement signing, it is a signing teams like Chelsea, Liverpool or Man City would make showing the direction Spurs are looking to go under Conte. A man who has won it all and provided massive moments for club and country ready to explode in the Premier League under his old boss Antonio Conte. Ivan Perisic Ladies and Gentlemen.
